Susan Sands - Painter/Printmaker

PAINTINGS
Below is a selection of recent works by Susan inspired by the landscape of Wales, the Scillies, Suffolk, France and India, with boats and still life a recurring theme, mostly figurative, but some verging on the abstract.

Working in such a variety of media, Susan has a flexible, experimental approach, often borrowing from her skills as a printmaker to add the rough `percussive` effect of print to enliven the marks made in her paintings.

In the same way the directness and vigour of childrens` work has inspired her painting. Teaching at various levels in schools, and running a Family Arts Workshop for fifteen years, she frequently uses a child’s drawing as the basis for one of her own pieces.

`Low tech` materials have always attracted her and a day spent with grandchildren up to her elbows in paint, flour paste, pebbles, mud etc provides a jumping off point for new ideas.
